What Is Bonding?

Bonding is a cosmetic dental treatment that uses a tooth-colored composite material to restore or enhance the appearance of teeth. The composite resin is carefully sculpted and polished to match the color and texture of the surrounding teeth for seamless and natural-looking results. Bonding can repair chipped, cracked, or discolored teeth, close gaps between teeth, or change the shape of teeth. At Sweet Tooth Pediatric Dentistry, we offer bonding as a safe and effective way to improve your child’s smile.

Bonding Is For:

  • Children with chipped or cracked teeth
  • Children with discolored or stained teeth
  • Children with gaps or spaces between their teeth
  • Children with misshapen or uneven teeth
  • Children who want to improve the appearance of their smile
  • Children who are not yet ready for crowns

How Bonding Works

Bonding involves using a tooth-colored composite resin material that is applied to the surface of a tooth. The tooth undergoes cleaning and preparation for children’s bonding in Wausau. Next, the composite material is carefully placed onto the tooth and sculpted to match the shape and size of the surrounding teeth. A special light hardens the composite material, and the bonded tooth is polished to create a smooth and natural-looking finish.

Advantages of Bonding:

  • Can be completed in a single visit
  • Minimally invasive, preserving more of the natural tooth structure
  • Bonded teeth are easy to maintain with regular brushing and flossing
  • Provides a natural-looking result that blends in with the surrounding teeth
  • Cost-effective compared to veneers or crowns
  • Can treat a wide range of cosmetic issues
  • Can boost your child’s self-esteem and confidence

Why can't I give 10 stars?? Because that is what Dr. Chelsea and her assistant Britney deserve. They are absolutely amazing with my two kiddos. My 4 year old who was scared of the dentist before will not stop talking about Dr. Chelsea and her "tickle brush" to clean his teeth. Dr. Chelsea makes appointments for babies easy with the use of a lap exam, so my little one is safe in my arms the entire time and at the end they are spoiled so much they do not want to leave! This is a very different experience than I had as a kid. I am so thankful for these wonderful humans!

We took our two year old here for his first ever dental appointment. The office is beautiful and there are SO many fun toys for the kids. All of the staff were absolutely wonderful and the Dr was so kind and gentle with our son. This will definitely be our go to dentist. It is truly a great place!! I never leave reviews but thought everyone should know how great this place is!

5 stars is not enough! This place is amazing and the team is fantastic! I never in a million years thought I'd have to bribe my child to LEAVE the dentist. They know what they're doing as far as my child's health, but they have also put so much care and effort into making your child's experience enjoyable and positive. From the second we walked in they made my daughter feel like a celebrity, they go above and beyond! We drive an hour just to see them and it's so worth it.

The Bonding Session: What to Expect?

During your child’s bonding session at Sweet Tooth, our team will prepare the tooth by cleaning and etching its surface. The tooth-colored composite resin material will be carefully applied to the tooth and sculpted to the desired shape. Once the material is in place, a special light will be used to harden the bonding agent. Finally, the bonded tooth will be polished to create a natural-looking finish. The entire process takes one visit. Our team will ensure your child is comfortable throughout the process of pediatric bonding in Wausau.

What Happens After Bonding?

After your child’s bonding procedure, they may experience minor side effects, such as sensitivity or soreness in the treated tooth. These side effects should resolve within a few days. Your child should avoid eating hard or sticky foods for the first 24 hours to allow the bonding material to fully harden. Regular brushing and flossing will help maintain the appearance and longevity of the bonding. Your child can resume normal activities immediately after the procedure but should avoid biting or chewing on hard objects.

Dental Bonding FAQs

How long does the dental bonding procedure take?

The dental bonding procedure takes around 30 minutes per tooth. It is a relatively quick and straightforward process, making it a convenient option for minor cosmetic improvements.

How durable is dental bonding?

The durability of dental bonding depends on several factors, including the location of the bonding and how well it’s cared for. On average, dental bonding can last anywhere from 3 to 10 years. Avoid habits like biting on hard objects to extend the lifespan of the bonding material.

Is dental bonding painful?

Dental bonding is usually painless and requires little to no anesthesia. Patients may experience slight discomfort or sensitivity during and after the procedure, but it’s generally well-tolerated.

Is dental bonding stain-resistant?

While dental bonding is somewhat stain-resistant, it is not entirely immune to discoloration. Over time, the bonding material can pick up stains from foods and drinks like coffee or red wine. Maintaining good oral hygiene and regular check-ups can reduce staining.

How do I care for bonded teeth?

To care for bonded teeth, maintain good oral hygiene by brushing and flossing regularly. Avoid biting on hard objects and refrain from habits like nail biting. It’s also important to attend regular dental check-ups for professional assessments and maintenance of the bonding.
